U.S.: Summer Activities & Fresh Air
What do you get when you mix 30 minutes of outdoor yoga, two hours of bike riding, and one hour of tennis on a sunny summer day?
Answer: one crisply sunburned back.
Yes, I am unfortunately on the receiving end of this one. But, even though my back may be red and itchy for the next day or three, it was all worth it. There's nothing quite like getting a good fix of vitamin D after being deprived for months while living in the North American tundra.
During my outdoor activities today I tried to be extra observant of my surroundings and reflect on the characteristics of Moorhead which make this place unique. I tried to think about the things which, during my time living here, have grown to feel natural. Things which I probably wouldn't think about until after I leave. Besides differences in population, language, and landscape, I think one of the main differences between this place and my future home of Mexico City is the air. Here the air is fresh and the sky is blue. One of my friends recently told me that a study conducted in Mexico City found that when drawing pictures, children are coloring the sky brown instead of blue. The pollution and smog in Mexico City will certainly be a difference from what I am used to.
So, I suppose for right now I will absorb all of the fresh air that Moorhead has to offer and keep a reservoir for days to come when fresh air may seem non-existent. And hopefully my next outdoor activities won't have the same repercussions as today.
