U.S.: Engagements & Anniversaries
'Tis the season to get engaged. Or so it seems, judging that every other day another friend of mine has either popped the question or been asked and said yes. I suppose when college graduation rolls around and people start to get their "real world" lives established, it only seems fitting to get married if "the one" has been found. Congratulations are in order for all of these newly engaged couples. And quite honestly I must say: better you than me.
At my current stage I cannot fathom what 60 years of life would be like. That means I have an even harder time imagining what it would be like to be married for 60 years. However, I think I can say reaching a 60th anniversary comes with a lot of joy and happiness, judging by the smiles on my grandparents' faces as we celebrated this milestone with them last week. I only hope that all of my recently engaged and married friends can reach 60+ years of wedded bliss as well.
The other day I was with a friend from college, enjoying hours with a favorite pastime of ours: coloring. We turn to this innocent, childhood hobby when life around us seems to be getting too serious. We can be mature, carry on deep conversations, and at the same time ask for the other to, "pass over the tickle-me-pink, please." Yes, meanwhile everyone else was growing up, we were busy testing out our new Crayolas in a Disney coloring book. There's gotta be some value in staying young at heart.
