Nicaragua: Where you invest your love

Waking up with the roosters' cry at sunrise is something I've become accustomed to in the past weeks. The need to set an alarm basically doesn't exist anymore since nature provides its own wake-up call. On some mornings I need to be at school for 7am class and I find it amazing that I am able to dawn with nature, shower, make and eat breakfast, and even have extra time to hang out before leaving for school.

One morning this week I didn't have to be at school until a little bit later, so I decided to make the most of the morning and go for a run. What could be a better start to the day than boosting my endorphins by running through the gravel streets of my town, all the while shaded by banana trees and palm branches?

I thought the morning was perfect for a run. On the contrary, the rest of the town thought it was a perfect morning for burning their trash.

Unfortunately there isn't a developed garbage collection system here, so apparently the next best thing is to burn trash. Makes sense, since the garbage just disappears when you burn it, right? Now when we take the interests of the environment and personal health into consideration, burning garbage is not such a great idea.

So while on my jog I inhaled a few unwanted fumes. It put a slight damper on my morning exercise which I had planned would be spectacularly perfect. In my ideal world there would be no such thing as trash burning; in fact there may not even be such a thing called trash.

Obviously, I'm not living in my ideal world. However, a vision of that world will hopefully help me in carrying out my projects here. Progress will take patience; progress will happen one dawning morning at a time.
