Nicaragua: I told you to be patient

September is coming to an end and that means we say so long to the Independence Day activities here. Yesterday everybody gathered at the baseball field for one last celebration in which the students had the chance to drum, march, and spin their batons for everybody one more time. The following are some photos from the event:

Students from one of the high schools line up on the field.
Not only did the girls shake their hips in little glittery skirts on the field, they did so on top of the drums too.
Then it started to rain, of course. How many people can we fit under one umbrella?
The show must go on, despite the rain.
I think of drumline performances in the states where the only people allowed on the field are the performers, then I look at this photo and just chuckle.
The rain has washed away and the final performers line up.
And at the end of the day all the kids say, "Are we really done now? Are you sure?"
All in all, it has been a month full of many "patriotic" activities and therefore many school interruptions. With approximately two months remaining on the school calendar, there are quite a few end-of-the-year academic activities that will happen between now and December. Now that drum/dance practice is over, one would think that students will have more time to dedicate to their studies. Or perhaps that is just me being a wishful-thinking teacher.
