Nicaragua: So let's set the world on fire
The fact that the month of November has commenced seems to me quite bizarre. November is the time when the last leaves are supposed to drop off the trees, the weather takes a chilly turn, and snow sometimes even begins to fall...if you're in Minnesota, that is. In my current location, the sun still shines, the rain still falls, and the drastic change of seasons simply does not exist. Nevertheless, time still moves us forward at the same rate.
The following are some updates relating to my current projects and activities:
-In October we successfully organized two municipal and one departmental entrepreneurship fairs/competitions. A team from one of my schools won first place in the departmental competition, so I will be working with them in preparation for the national competition which will be held at the end of November.
-The group of women I am working with have opened a communal bank account to start saving money, have begun to brainstorm and carry-out income generating activities, and have planned to open a new business within the coming months. Their plan is to open a shop that sells natural fruit drinks.
-As the end of the school year approaches, we are organizing a leadership camp for students that will be held sometime during the school break, either in December or January.
-The first gym and fitness center in my community celebrated its grand opening. It is an excellent addition to the community and is already beginning to form a solid clientele. Having been an athlete my whole life, the opening of this gym is great news for me.
Despite the absence of weather change, I suppose October can be considered an overall success. Here's to another successful month to come.
