Visiting Minnesota (my brothers, cats)

My mom says that she was given a child for each of the seasons: I was born in the fall, Nick in winter, Brian in spring, and Chris in summer. During my recent visit home, we also discovered that she has one child for each Hogwarts house. Thanks to an evening of siblings conversing the way siblings do and the official Pottermore sorting process, this information has been made known.

I must admit, I was nervous to go through the sorting process, as I had only one house in mind as the perfect house for me. What if the sorting hat decided a destiny for me different from the one I had so ingrained in my mind? I mean, just a moment before it was determined that the patronus of dog-lover Chris (sorted into Gryffindor mostly for his curiosity but also for being brave, adventurous, and chivalrous) was none other than a cat. Beads of sweat dripped down my brow as I began the sorting process, and shortly thereafter it was confirmed: I am a Ravenclaw! Such relief! My wisdom, creativity, and overall intelligence simply does not fit better into any other house.

True to his Minnesota roots, Nick was sorted into the "house of nice people": Hufflepuff. At first I thought that Hufflepuff was the house of the misfits (sorry, Nick), but after some research (in true Ravenclaw fashion, obviously) I learned that the house of Hufflepuff values hard work, dedication, fair play, and loyalty. Since Brian and Nick are basically twins separated by 8.5 years, I figured Brian would also be a Hufflepuff (he is a nice guy, too, after all). However, to our surprise and to round out the sibling sorting, the older but wiser one was sorted into the evil house of Slytherin. Just kidding...not all Slytherins are evil. The eldest sibling, the intelligent, determined, resourceful and ambitious born leader, was sorted into the house of the proud.

Alas, the sorting was complete. Though we do share some common traits, we are not a family like the Weasleys. We can't all be Gryffindors, nor should we be. Diversity is good! Perhaps we can take our next family photo in our Hogwarts robes and display our proud diversity via our house colors. Us Ravenclaws have the best ideas!

It was good to see those of you I could while in snowy Minnesota. Let me know when spring (or maybe summer) arrives and I'll consider going back! For now, I am quite content with some sunny fall weather down here in the southern hemisphere. In closing, I would like to especially thank you all for letting me play with your cats. It's good to know we have our priorities straight. Highlights below:

Ava even smiled for the camera!
Plus, I'm wearing Ravenclaw colors even before knowing that was my official house. It was meant to be!
Others (ahem, Gabby) were not as enthused to pose for the camera.

Luna doesn't need a crown to tell the world she's the queen.

Maggie: on a daily mission to keep us from reading the news (because is there even anything good in there?)

Icicles in April and cats almost getting along. Things that make you say, "huh?"
