Mexico: Birthday Cake
NO MORE CAKE. If anybody else tries to give me cake, make me eat cake, push my face into a cake, or even make me look at cake, I just might explode.
I understand that having a birthday is a reason to celebrate, but at this point cake is no longer a sufficient way to do so. It all started when I arrived at the office and my coworkers told me that I shouldn't have to actually work on my birthday, so we took a two-hour outing for hot chocolate and doughnuts. I consider doughnuts to be in the cake family. Cake #1
After I was done with work for the day, I went out to eat with a few friends and was gifted a "small" personal cake. Having zero space in my stomach after eating, I took the cake to go. It is currently still sitting in my fridge. Cake #2
Later on I was with some other friends, who also surprised me with a cake. They did the whole "light candles and sing to the birthday girl" thing (although they did not sing Feliz Cumpleaños...rather they sang the traditional Mexican birthday song "Las mañanitas") There is another birthday tradition here, which is that the birthday person has to take a bite out of his or her cake...without using silverware...before the cake is cut and served. Any clever cat can figure out that your friends don't just want to see you eat your cake like an animal, they want to push your face into your cake as you lean in to take a bite. I did the traditional "mordida" but managed to not have my entire face get pushed into my cake and be covered in frosting. We managed to eat most of this cake, but the few leftovers are also sitting in my fridge. Cake #3
In order to stretch out the birthday celebrations, my coworkers took me out for lunch today...two days after my actual birthday. We had a very filling meal of Italian food, and even though I had exactly zero room in my stomach after eating only half of my pasta, my boss insisted that he order me a piece of cake. The waiter brought it, everybody sang another round of "Las mañanitas," and I asked for a box so that I could take the cake to go. Where is this piece of cake? Also in my fridge. Cake #4
Calling anybody who likes cake. Help me please.
