Mexico: Shopping at the Market

To market to market to buy a big pig...

Today is Tuesday and that means that just down the street from where I live, the merchants take over a three-block stretch of the road and set up their stands in full force to sell their vegetables, fruit, meat, flowers, clothing, and pretty much anything else you could imagine. The norm is to bring your own shopping cart and fill it with fresh produce.

Now this isn't just your average farmer's market. There were fruits and veggies that I have never heard of before. The flowers are beautiful and cost basically nothing. I think I was offered more samples of fruit than I bought (and we brought home a full cart). Plus, the fruit is so fresh and sweet that eating it is enough to make a person melt. I walked through the market enjoying this delicious granada (pomegranate):

The only problem I have with this market is that bringing home so much produce means that I am expected to eat all of it. My señora is quite the cook, so turning down anything that she prepares just cannot be allowed. Good thing I walk enough each day to burn it off. Or let's hope so anyway.
