Mexico: Sunday Activities

For being the so-called "day of rest," Sunday was certainly full of activity in Mexico's capital city.

While walking down Reforma, one of the main streets in the city, there were sights of activity everywhere. First of all, the road is closed to automobiles on Sunday morning/afternoon and it is completely taken over by bicyclists. If paradise exists, this might be it. You can pretty much guarantee that I will be joining in the biking fun sooner or later.

Another sight of activity along Reforma was in the plaza of the Angel de la Independencia. It was there that I happened upon a giant Zumba session. People of all ages, shapes, and sizes gathered for a bit of morning exercise as they followed the Zumba instructor's rhythmic dance moves. Do you think I will be joining the Zumba festivities at some point as well? You betcha.

My favorite sight from the day was probably when I walked by a playground near where I am living. There weren't children playing on said playground; rather, there were grown men using the equipment as part of their morning exercises. The Adidas and Nike-clad men were using the mini merry-go-rounds and other equipment as pseudo-Nordic Tracks and stair-steppers. Now that is what I'd call a multi-purpose playground.
