Mexico: Squirrels
Squirrels could quite possibly be considered the monkeys of North America. Some people find them extremely irritating (like my Grandpa, who dedicated a good portion of his life to capturing and relocating squirrels...as a hobby). Others are fascinated by them. The latter seems to be the general consensus in Mexico City.
As I was walking through the Bosque Chapultepec - basically the Central Park of this city - more than once I was almost run over by young children on serious squirrel hunts. They would dodge in and around everybody in their path to get the best look at one of our bushy-tailed friends. Additionally, crowds would form around squirrels, everybody itching to capture the best photo possible. Many people also think it is a good idea to feed these squirrels. Therefore, the squirrels are quite friendly and unafraid of people.
At one point during my walk through the park I was even attacked by a group of vicious squirrels. Okay, so that is being overly-dramatic, but I was definitely approached by a bunch of the bold, little rodents. Too bad I didn't have anything to give to them. Actually, let's be honest. I don't really feel bad at all.
